Biography: 

Justice Magdangal de Leon obtained his Foreign Service degree from the University of the Philippines where he was a College Scholar. At university, he became Secretary General of the UP Foreign Service Corps, and member of the Phi Kappa Phi International Honor Society and the Pi Gamma Mu International Social Science Honor Society.  He proceeded to complete his law studies from the same university, graduating in the top ten of the 1972 batch.
 
After a few years in private practice, Dangal entered government service in 1976 as a Research Attorney in the Office of the Solicitor General. Rising from the ranks, he was appointed Assistant Solicitor General in 1991.  In 2004, he was appointed Associate Justice of the Court of Appeals.
 
He is the current Chairman of the 7th Division of the Court of Appeals and Chairman of the Philippine Judicial Academy’s Remedial Law Department as well as its Committee on the new Benchbook for Philippine Trial Courts. He is also a member of the Supreme Court Sub-Committee on the Revision of the Rules on Civil Procedure, Special Committee on Speedy Trial in Criminal Cases and IBP Oversight Committee
 
Dangal teaches remedial law at Ateneo Law and also conducts bar review in the said subject in Ateneo and other law schools. He has authored two law books: “Appellate Remedies” and “Special Proceedings, Essentials for Bench and Bar”.
