RP Youth Team is SEABA champ; AHS soph Jolo Mendoza is MVP!

The Philippines’ Under 16 Youth Team is champion of the Southeast Asian Basketball Association (SEABA) tournament, after defeating the winless team from Singapore, 88-44 on the night of July 18. In addition, Ateneo High School sophomore Jolo Mendoza (2-L) was also named MVP (most valuable player) of the tournament.  

In the first game of the SEABA tournament last July 15, the RP team beat Indonesia, 87-52. On Tuesday, July 16, they beat Malaysia, 76-72. Wednesday saw the Philippines nabbing their third win, demolishing Thailand, 82-58. Of the Philippines’ 82 points, Jolo Mendoza contributed 15.  

Three members of the RP Youth Team are varsity players from the Ateneo de Manila High School’s Blue Eaglets roster: Jolo Mendoza, Matthew Nieto (3-F) and Mike Nieto (3-E).

The RP U-16 Youth Team was coached by Jamike Jarin.
