Jarvey Gayoso of 3J wins Golden Boot Award at Clear National Aspirants Football Camp
Three members of the Ateneo de Manila High School football team- Jarvey Gayoso (3-J), Gonzalito Bongolan (2-I), and Kenneth Soriano (2-F) - were among the 80 most promising footballers aged 16 and under who were selected to participate in the Clear National Aspirants Camp held from July 19 to 21. A joint project of the Philippine Football Federation, ABS-CBN Sports, and Clear, the camp gathered for the first time on one pitch 27 talented teen booters from Metro Manila and 53 from provinces nationwide. For three days, the participants engaged in various drills, training methods and educational lectures designed to equip the boys with tools to elevate their game to the next level. Present to guide and coach the athletes were Chieffy Caligdong and Phil & James Younghusband of the Philippine Azkals.
The camp culminated on July 21 with a series of exhibition games held at the Rizal Memorial Stadium. These games gave the boys an opportunity to compete against one another and apply what they had learned at the camp. At the end of the games, Ateneo High School junior Jarvey Gayoso of 3J was given the Golden Boot Award for being the player who scored the most goals (five). The award also came with a P5,000 cash prize. He was also included in the "first eleven," which is the football equivalent of basketball's "mythical five."
Jarvey Gayoso is one of the most talented members of the AHS football team. Last February 25, he was named Rookie of the Year and Best Mid Fielder at the UAAP Season 75 Football Tournament.
