AHS food kitchen produces 27,402 food packs for monsoon victims from August 8 to 10, 2012
From August 8 to 10, hundreds of volunteers participated in the Ateneo de Manila High School's relief effort to aid those who were severely affected by the monsoon that flooded Metro Manila and nearby provinces from August 6 to 9. The volunteers who helped in the AHS consisted of AHS students, teachers, alumni, and female students from nearby schools like Miriam and Assumption Antipolo.
.For its part, the Ateneo High School operated a food kitchen in the AHS cafeteria to supplement the sorting and repacking of relief goods that was held at the Loyola Schools Covered Courts and the Ateneo Grade School at the same time. The "AHS food kitchen" was supervised by Fr. JBoy Gonzales SJ, Associate Principal for Formation (APFor) of the AHS. On the night of August 12, Fr. JBoy reported that the AHS kitchen "was able to make 27,402 food packs and fed many more with sandwich packs and bread. Credit goes to the youth and the support of parents and faculty."
The Ateneo DReaM (Disaster Response and Management) Team is coordinating the AdMU's relief operations in tandem with Simbahang Lingkod ng Bayan. And though the AHS' food kitchen has suspended its activities because of the resumption of classes, Ateneo de Manila University President Fr. Jett Villarin, SJ, has appealed for a continuation of the community's generosity. In a University memo, he urges the AdMU community "...to keep vigil with our people through our acts of generosity and kindness and prayer. May this strengthen our resolve to study and work harder to become faithful stewards of all that has been created for us and entrusted to our care."
