11-M wins "Fragments:Macbeth" tilt of AHS English subject area
As announced last 8 January 2016, the class of M-2017 (11-M) has topped the Ateneo de Manila High School’s annual “Fragments:Macbeth” competition. The class won first place for transposing the events of William Shakespeare’s “Macbeth” from 11th century Scotland to a 1950s American diner. Video of the entire presentation can be viewed at the top of this page.
Tied in second place were the classes of C-2017 and K-2017, while G-2017 placed third.
Special citations were also given to the following: M-2017 for best production design; K-2017 for most unique concept; and Miguel Quilit of G-2017 for best actor (he portrayed Macbeth as a ghetto dweller).
Organized by the English subject area, “Fragments:Macbeth” is a competition that challenges AHS Grade 11 classes to adapt Shakespeare’s immortal tragedy “Macbeth” in a creative way and stage excerpts in a live presentation. In previous years, the students presented their excerpts in front of their classrooms in the manner of street plays. For this school year, the boys presented their excerpts last December 10 & 11, 2015 in Hayes Hall.
