A group of Atenean city planners moves on to the Final Round (Junior Category) of “Planning a Clean and Green Township: City Beautiful Manila” to be held in Singapore from April 7 to 12. Composed of Luigi Alcañeses, Jericho Bascos, Daniel Del Rio, Ryan Encarnacion, LA Ibarrientos, and Cisco Ortega-all from 10-A-  AHS Team Brilliant is one of the six representatives of the Philippines to the said event organized by Singapore-based Activistar Private Ltd.

The city planning group survived the elimination round wherein they constructed a 15-page proposal detailing how they intend to make the City of Manila more livable to residents, more enticing to businesses and more attractive to tourists while preserving its rich cultural heritage. Out of all the proposals submitted, only six  proposals were chosen from the Philippines to move on to the Multimedia Presentation and Model Building phases which will happen in Singapore in early April. In the final round, they will compete with the young city planners from countries like Singapore, Malaysia, and Qatar.
The team has been preparing for months now by attending the “Livable Cities Workshop: An Introduction to Sustainable City Planning” seminar series by the Ateneo Institute of Sustainability (AIS) held from November to January. In addition, together with other contestants from the Philippines, the group also attended the City Planning preparatory workshop handled by Activistar in the Mind Museum last February. The group also meets with Dr. Ma. Assunta Cuyegkeng and Ms. Abigail Favis of AIS to prepare them for the competition.

Together with one group from the Loyola Schools for the Senior Category, the group will attend a four-day Singapore study trip on city planning before the actual competition.
