Ateneo High School debater Luigi Anton S. Alcañeses (11-A) emerged as overall champion of the Extemporaneous Speaking competition of the Youth Economics Summit (YES) last February 5, 2016. The summit was hosted by the Ateneo Economics Association and held at the Ateneo de Manila University campus from Feb. 4-5, 2016.

YES is an annual tournament that invites students from all over the Philippines to engage in a discussion of socio-economic development issues. This year, the discussions were contextualized in the wider scheme of the upcoming National Elections. Keynote speakers such as Dr. Fernando Aldaba of the School of Social Sciences and Congressman Win Gatchalian of Valenzuela City were invited to share insights on nation-building and economic development through the youth.

Representing the Economics Org for the Quiz Bee portion were Ramon Alfredo A. Balingit, Pocholo Javier N. Fernandez, and Lance Gabriell L. Saringan (all from 12-G). These students competed against several schools such as Miriam College, De La Salle Integrated School, and St. Jude Catholic School.
