Aldrich Asuncion (12A) is Champion of the National Olympiad in Informatics!

Ateneo de Manila High School student Aldrich C. Asuncion of 12A was named champion of the National Olympiad in Informatics Philippines last July 5. For his first place finish in the challenging programming competition, Aldrich was given a cellphone, a medal, and P3000 cash. He also won a special t-shirt that was given only to the contestants who finished in the Top Ten.
 
A self-taught programming aficionado, Aldrich was surprised when he won the competition, considering that he was the only contestant at the Olympiad who wasn’t accompanied by a coach. He believes, however, that regular training sessions with the Loyola Schools’ Department of Information Systems and Computer Science  (DISCS) leveled the playing field between him and his fellow contestants, most of whom came from schools steeped in computer programming and information technology.   

Last February, when he was a junior, Aldrich and two fellow AHS students won first place in the DISCS Programming Open v2014.02.    

Endorsed by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), the National Olympiad in Informatics Philippines was held in Kickstart, Makati and lasted five hours.
