Jake Advincula’s essay about Jose Abad Santos published as a children’s book by Bookmark
Last February 18, then Ateneo de Manila High School freshman Jake Advincula of 1A was announced as the first place winner of Bookmark’s Modern Heroes for the Filipino Youth writing contest for Ateneo HS students. Jake won for his essay about Chief Justice Jose Abad Santos, entitled “My Father, the ‘Soldier.’"
Exactly ten months after winning the contest, Jake is now a sophomore in the class of 2A, and a published author as well! “My Father, the ‘Soldier’” was recently published as a children’s book by The Bookmark Inc., and given a soft launch on December 17 at the AHS as part of the school’s celebration of English Day. Held at the AHS Covered Courts, the launch took place during the Quiz Bee of the second years, with Jake and his batchmates present. Also present was Dr. Mari Delfin of Bookmark, who spoke briefly about Jake’s work.
After the launch, the book was exhibited and sold at the AHS Library Discussion Room together with other books from Bookmark’s Modern Heroes for the Filipino Youth series. Priced at P98, “My Father, the ‘Soldier’” is edited by Nina Macaraig-Gamboa and illustrated by Aurora Morealis & Gutch Gutierrez.
