Ateneo de Manila High School students Earl Mabulay, Julian Patdu, Vinz Ferrer, Diego Manalastas, and Manuel Ng- all from the class of 12-O- were selected as one of the winners of Harvard University’s Village to Raise a Child 2015 global competition. The boys, who joined the contest as MicaPH, won for a proposed app that hopes to revolutionize health care in the Philippines. Faculty member Marion Olmillo of the AHS Computer Subject Area mentored the boys in the competition.

As one of the groups selected by the judges, MicaPH is now a certified Social Innovation Collaborative Global Trailblazer. They are now in Cambridge, Massachusetts to present MicaPH at the Igniting Innovation Summit on Social Entrepreneurship to be held at Harvard University on November 14, 2015. A total of 28 teams from Brazil, Thailand, India, the Philippines, Nepal, and Egypt joined the 2015 Village To Raise A Child competition.

On our first day at Cambridge, Massachusetts we met with the Filipino community at Boston (meeting some former AHS teachers and alumni), toured Boston College (courtesy of Filipino Jesuit friends we made), and had dinner with the organizers of the event.

More activities are planned for the rest of the week to get us geared for presenting at the Summit! We're going to sit in relevant classes at Harvard, talk with start-up business owners, and lots more! We're excited to learn more about how to run a business and how to develop Mica into something that can truly help the Philippines.Team picture at Boston College with a statue of St. Ignatius in the background

6 more days until our presentation at the Igniting Innovation Summit! Stay tuned for daily updates on how we're doing here! We're all very grateful for the support from family and friends!
