AHAS is champion of Alamat Arnis Tournament
With a total haul of 19 medals, Ateneo de Manila High School’s Ateneo High Arnis Society (AHAS) emerged as champion of the Alamat Arnis Tournament last February 21, 2016. AHAS was represented by five members: Isid Alngog (12G), Joaquin Diaz (12M), Jan Kenneth Macagba(11B), Iggy Bunag (10B), and Luis Albar (9K). The breakdown of the 19 medals they won is eight golds, two silvers, and nine bronzes.
Winning four gold medals each was the AHS Team 1 tandem of Isid Alngog (12G) & Joaquin Diaz (12M), who claimed the top spot in four events: the 3-Man Team Full-Contact Event Tapatan Open Weight Men’s Division, the King of Fighters (KOF) Ubusan ng Lahi Open Weight Men’s Division, the 5-Man Team Full-Contact Event Tapatan (open weight) Men’s Division, and the KOF Ubusan ng Lahi (open weight) Men’s Division.
The two silver medals were won by the AHS Team 2 tandem of Jan Kenneth Macagba(11B) & Iggy Bunag (10B) in the 3-Man Team Full-Contact Event Tapatan (open weight) Men’s Division.
Eight of the AHS’ nine bronze medals were won by the AHS Team 2 triumvirate of Jan Kenneth Macagba(11B), Iggy Bunag (10B), & Luis Albar (9K), who won third place in the 5-Man Team Full-Contact Event Tapatan (open weight) Men’s Division and the KOF Ubusan ng Lahi (open weight) Men’s Division.
Two of the AHS’ bronze medals were won by Joaquin Diaz (12M) and Iggy Bunag (10B) for the Individual Men’s Open Weight Full-Contact (below 18 years old) event. Luis Albar (9K) won another bronze medal for the King of Fighters Ubusan ng Lahi (Open weight) Men’s Division, in which he joined Jaime Saspa & Ian Batangan of Claret High School.
It is worth noting that in the 3-Man Team Full-Contact Event Tapatan (open weight) Men’s Division, AHS Team 1 & Team 2 outperformed their college counterparts, winning gold and silver, respectively, against the AdMU team’s bronze finish.
AHS Team 1 (Alngog & Diaz) likewise did better than Team AdMU in the KOF (King of Fighters)Ubusan ng Lahi (open weight) Men’s Division, winning gold vis a vis Team AdMU’s silver finish.
