AHS Grade 11 student Jag Gonzales wins Silver Bat award at SEAYBST 2014!
Though the ILLAM baseball team settled for a first runner-up finish at the South East Asia Youth Baseball and Softball Tournament (SEAYBST) last March, it was a member of that team who won the prestigious Silver Bat award for being the tournament’s best hitter. That awardee is 15-year-old Jose Andres “Jag” E. Gonzales, who recently began school year 2014-2015 as a grade 11 student of the Ateneo de Manila Senior High School. Jag finished SEAYBST with a batting average of .636, 1 home run, 3 doubles, 3 singles, and 10 RBIs (runners batted in). A member of 11-N Alonso, Jag has been playing for the Ateneo de Manila Varsity Baseball Team since he was in grade school. Last season, he competed in the UAAP, UBL, and TOT League tournaments. He also played for the NCR Baseball Team at Palarong Pambansa.
Held from March 25 to 30, 2014 in Clark Field in Pampanga, the SEAYBST featured teams from Australia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines. In the finals, the Manila/ Philippines team lost to Perth/Australia, 12-8, which won SEAYBST via grand slam.
