AHS/QC baseball team is NCR champion; Guzman, Roque, Angeles receive indiv'l awards
Representing Quezon City, the Ateneo de Manila High School baseball team defeated opponents from Pasig, Makati, Manila, Parañaque, Marikina, and Muntinlupa to emerge as champions of the NCR baseball meet last February 9, 2016. As such, they will represent the NCR at Palarong Pambansa 2016 to be held in Albay this summer. Three members of the QC Baseball Team were also recognized with awards for individual achievement following the championship game. Manu Guzman (10-G) was given the award for Most Stolen Bases (a feat he was recognized for in the UAAP Season 78 championship a week earlier), while Raph Roque (11-O) received the Best Catcher award. Last but not least, newly-minted UAAP Season 78 juniors baseball MVP Miggy Angeles (12-K) was given the NCR meet’s Best Pitcher award.
The NCR win came 9 days after the AHS baseball team won the UAAP Season 78 juniors baseball championship on January 31, 2016. All the members of the QC team are from the AHS' UAAP champion team.
The members of the Quezon City/AHS baseball team are Nathan Joseph P. Carpio (10-F), Manuel Alfonso G. Guzman (10-G), Timothy Patrick P. Albert (11-G), Alfonso Luis C. Estacio (11-M), Raphael Virgilio Roque (11-O), Justin Raphael A. Garcia (12-D), Roque Francisco B. Andaya (12-F), Rymer Tomlin R Tionloc (12-H), Javier Ma. Agustin A. Pablo (12-I), Rogelio Miguel A. Angeles (12-K), Vincent Anthony B. Montero (12-L), and Jose Andres E. Gonzales (12-N).
The team's head coach is Randy Dizer, who is also the baseball program head of Ateneo de Manila University. The team's assistant coaches are Pepe Jose, Juniper Piñero, and Fedo Olivares.
The games for the NCR baseball meet were held at the Alabang Country Club in Muntinlupa.
