The Ateneo de Manila High School judokas finished in second place at the conclusion of the UAAP Season 78 Judo Championship in the afternoon of November 18, 2015. The team had hoped to bag a three-peat after winning the title in season 76 and season 77, but the fact that more than half of its membership was new certainly colored the eventual outcome, which saw University of Santo Tomas (UST) win the junior boys crown in judo this year. Head coach Ali Sulit, however, couldn’t be more proud of the AHS Judo Team, calling them “the bravest and most determined boys I know” on his Facebook page.

The AHS judokas who won medals at the competition (play the video at the top of this page) are as follows:

Ralph de Leon (10A): -66 kg, bronze

Bernie Margulies (10B): -73 kg, bronze

Eric Uy (12G): -90 kg, silver

Jem Viardo (12B): -100 kg, bronze

Paolo Sison (12A):  -100 kg, gold

Noah Lee (12E): +100 kg, gold

Ateneo’s medal haul translated to 31 points, behind champion UST’s 53 points. De La Salle Zobel’s 25 points put them in 3rd place. The AHS judokas are coached by Ali Sulit, Robert Divina, Gilbert Ramirez, JR Reyes, and Kat Duque.

The UAAP Season 78 judo championship was held in the St. Benilde Gym of La Salle Greenhills on November 18 & 19, 2015.
