Ateneo HS is 3-peat PAYA Tennis champion!

The Ateneo de Manila High School lawn tennis team is three-peat champion of the PAYA Lawn Tennis tournament. AHS netters Iyo Canlas (4-M), Ralph Antonio (4-A), Cenon Gonzales Jr. (1-D), and Marcen Gonzales (3-C) successfully defended their title against the teams from La Salle Greenhills, Xavier, DLSZ, and Southridge in the games held at the Colegio San Agustin tennis courts last Saturday, October 5.  
 
In the games against Xavier (first runnerup in last year’s PAYA tennis tournament),  Marcen Gonzales won his first singles match 8-0, while Iyo Canlas and Cenon Gonzales Jr. won their doubles match, 8-3. Ralph Antonio fought well in his second singles match against Xavier but lost to its no.1 player, 8-7.  

Going into the finals against La Salle Greenhills, Ateneo High School had a twice to beat advantage. Marcen Gonzales won the first singles match, 8-1, while Iyo Canlas and Cenon Gonzales Jr. won their doubles match against the La Salle pair, 8-6, clinching the championship. After those wins, Ralph Antonio's second singles game against La Salle was non-bearing, but he played for the elimination against other schools like Xavier.
