Ateneo HS is RIFA Summer Open 2014 champion!
Trailing by one goal and with only a few minutes left in the title game, Ateneo de Manila High School’s Football Selection team managed to score a dramatic and decisive win over Claret School of Quezon City last June 3, clinching the RIFA HS Summer Open championship (see video playing on this page).
The first half of the 80-minute game ended in a draw, with Claret scoring its first goal approximately 30 minutes into the first half. Ateneo’s Koko Domingo scored just before the first half ended, tying the score at 1-1.
A few minutes into the second half, Claret scored again, bringing the score to 1-2. Claret maintained their lead for the next 20 minutes, neither side succeeding to lift the tally despite many attempts. And then, with approximately 15 minutes left in the game, Alain Tanchuan lifted the spirits of the Eaglets with a chip goal that tied the game at 2-2. With only a few precious few minutes left in the game, Jarvey Gayoso scored an astonishing three goals in quick succession. The final score was 5-2 in favor of the blue and white.
