Justin Mendoza (11-C), silver medalist in the 2015 National Poomsae Championships

Ateneo de Manila High School student Justin Mendoza of 11C bagged a silver medal last Sunday, July 19, in the 2015 Smart National Taekwondo Poomsae Championships. Mendoza beat 40 other taekwondo jins in his age bracket from all over the Philippines in the competition, which was held in the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex. "Poomsae" is defined on Wikipedia as "the set of forms used to teach taekwondo. A form, or poomsae (also romanized as pumsae or poomse) is a defined pattern of defense-and-attack motions." The poomsae which Justin Mendoza won the silver medal for last Sunday lasted one minute, and showcased the precision and grace of taekwondo forms.

Mendoza estimates that 400-500 boys and girls from all over the Philippines participated in the competition.
