45 for 45
In 1974, Ateneo de Manila University Psychology Department Chairperson, Dr. Patricia Licuanan together with Dr. Carmela Ortigas founded the Ateneo Human Resources Center. Their vision then was simple -to bridge academe and practice and apply Psychology to enable social, community, and organization transformation.
Fast forward forty-five years, what began with just one desk in the Department of Psychology has become the Ateneo Center for Organization Research and Development. Today, Ateneo CORD offers almost 50 programs a year including a Diploma in Organization Development and a Diploma in Strategic Human Resource Management. To respond to the needs of workers and employers, we have introduced new programs including Data-Driven HR, Mental Health and Employee Wellbeing, Coaching Across Generations, and the like. This year, we will be offering our first online course on Competency-based HR. We also continue to assist clients in developing their HR systems and in transforming their organizations.
For the past two decades, we have also challenged ourselves to not be dependent on Western practices and help build knowledge on how to manage people and organizations, the Filipino way. Since 2005, we have published 11 books: The Way We Work (2005), Pinoy at Work (2007), Leading Philippine Organizations in a Changing World (2008), Developing Social Enterprises (2009), 1-800-Philippines: Understanding and Managing the Filipino Call Center Worker (2010), Workplace Wisdom (2011), Rebirth and Reinvention: Transforming Philippine Organizations (2012), Strategic Human Resource Management: Learning from the Best (2013), Understanding the Filipino Worker and Organiztaion (2014/2018), Transforming Local Government (2017), and Organization Development in the Philippines (2018). This year, we are working on what will be our 12th book entitled “Filipino Leadership: Stories and Science.”
Beyond our publications, programs and services, we are most proud of our graduates who come from all over and even outside the country. Ateneo CORD has also become a training ground for our graduate students who with us, learn how to spread their wings and become persons for others.
To whom much is given, much is expected. As part of our anniversary celebration, we are launching 45 for 45 - a scholarship program that will enable 5 individuals to go through either a Diploma in OD or a Diploma in Strategic HRM. We will also be offering scholarship for 40 individuals for the following workshops: Kalinga, a workplace mental health program for small business and non-profit organizations and Hanap Buhay, Hanep Buhay, a pre-employment preparation program.
Nation-building for us means strengthening organizations and empowering workers. We would like to thank all our facilitators, client organizations and participants in the past 45 years. Know that we take your trust to heart and will continue striving to do and be more in the service of God and country.
