Assistant Professor Glenn Sevilla Mas honored with Gawad Pambansang Alagad ni Balagtas
Glenn Sevilla Mas, Assistant Professor from the Department of Fine Arts, has been named Gawad Pambansang Alagad ni Balagtas from the Unyon ng Mga Manunulat sa Pilipinos (UMPIL).
Mas joins a prestigious group of Filipino writers who have contributed significantly to the development of Philippine literature in various languages. Considered a lifetime achievement award for writers, the Gawad Pambansang Alagad ni Balagtas is named after one of the county’s literary greats, Francisco Balagtas. Mas is being honored for his contribution to writing dynamic plays such as the award- winning Rites of Passage, Her Father's House, and Children of the Sea.

A multi-awarded playwright (9 Palanca Awards and 2 Aliw Awards for Best Stage production), his works have been staged not just in the Philippines but in China and the US, as well. He is a Theater Grantee at Asian Cultural Center, a board member of the Philippine Center of International PEN (Poets, Playwrights, Essayists and Novelists),and a jury member of the Philstage Gawad Awards for the Performing Arts. He served as Artistic Director and Moderator of the student theater group Tanghalang Ateneo.
Mas received his MFA in Playwriting at the Catholic University of America in 2006.
