The Ateneo de Manila High School baseball team is champion of the UAAP Season 75 Juniors Baseball Tournament via sweep. The blue batters won their game against De La Salle Zobel, 4-3, last Saturday, February 9 at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium in Manila. AHS junior Juan Paulo B. Macasaet of 3-D was also named MVP.
For a taste of what the finals game was like, here is a Facebook status posted by Norman Macasaet (the proud dad of MVP Paulo Macasaet) mere hours after the game ended last February 9:
Congratulations to the 2013 UAAP Juniors Baseball Most Valuable Player - Paulo Macasaet !!!! Excellent pitching, fielding and hitting with nerves of steel in a full bases situation a 1 run lead and 2 outs. Backed by his catcher, Javi Macasaet all the way through with those perfect throws to second base to get runners out and nip scoring chances. Spirited plays by Radito Banzon and Marco Mallari, who between the two of them scored Ateneo's 4 runs. Great fielding by Miguel Habana at right field. Paco Neri coming off the bench and responsible for some great outs. And Miguel Dumlao, team captain, holding the team together especially in crucial situations. And all the contributions by the rest of the team - Kevin Villa, Lean Ramos, Miguel Reyes, Roque Banzon, Christopher Edward Puen, Tim Cu, Martin Abis, Ryan Abis, Enrico Untalan and Gabe Reyes.
