Atenean among 6 delegates to represent Philippines in global youth summit
Christian King L. Condez, a third year BS Biology student at the School of Science and Engineering, is one of the 6 youth representatives from the Philippines joining Bayer’s 2021 Youth Ag Summit this November. Organized by Bayer Crop Science, the 5th biennial youth summit will bring together 100 global young leaders between the ages of 18 and 25 for networking, debates, skills training, and project development.
Condez learned about the summit through social media. “I have always believed that there is a great need for the agricultural sector to be strengthened here in the Philippines, so when the opportunity came for me to apply for a global summit focused on making a positive impact in agriculture, I immediately applied.”
As a Biology student, Condez is cognizant of the “interconnectedness of things” and how developmental challenges can be solved through research, new ideas, and collaboration. “In our department, we have always been taught to appreciate all forms of life through the biological and life sciences. As biologists, our discipline extends to agriculture through topics in biotechnology, animal and plant science, ecology, sustainability, and even climate change,” he says.” I seek to find innovative ways to potentially solve our country’s looming food crisis. While this may be somehow far-featch or idealist, I believe we can all start small. With the Youth Ag Summit, I believe I may be able to become an empowered biologist and agricultural leader who would be at the forefront of solving these challenges, using this experience as a platform for incubating creative and innovative solutions.”
The 2021 Summit will be held virtually on 16-17 November 2021. For more information, visit www.youthagsummit.com/
