Professor Emeritus Cristina Montiel elected to NAST

Established in 1976, NAST recognizes outstanding Filipino achievements in science and technology. It also acts as the country’s scientific advisory body under the Department of Science and Technology.
Montiel has been with Ateneo de Manila for more than 4 decades and has served as a peace/political psychology professor. She has published more than 100 peer-reviewed academic papers on topics like Mindanao peace-building and the psychology of democratic transitions. In 2010, she received the Ralph White Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Psychological Association’s Peace Psychology Division. She was selected as an Outstanding Psychologist by the Psychological Association of the Philippines in 2016. Montiel has also served as a consultant for the Philippine government’s Commission on Human Rights and the Office of the Presidential Adviser for the Peace Process.
