The Felicito C. Payumo Scholarship
Last Monday, December 16, a P1,000,000 check donation was turned over to the Ateneo de Manila University, establishing the Felicito C. Payumo Scholarship. A Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was signed, formally creating the fund. Present at the event were Ateneo alumnus and former Bataan Congressman Felicito C. Payumo, Ateneo de Manila University President, Fr Jose Ramon T Villarin SJ, and members of the Ateneo Scholarship Foundation Inc. (ASFI) Board, Dr. Cecilio K. Pedro (Chairman), Mr. Victor Y. Lim, Jr. (Board Member), Mr. Honorio A. Poblador III (Board Member), and Mr. Jose A. Capistrano, Jr. (Board Member). Also in attendance were Mr. Arnaldo D. del Rosario, Director of the Office of University Development, Dr. Jose Maria Edito K. Tirol, Director of the Office of Admission and Aid, Ms. Julia Cristina A. Morata, Asst. to the Director for Scholarships of the Loyola Schools, and the recipient of the scholarship, freshman BS Biology major, Ms. Ina Cheska U. Dizon.
Cong. Payumo was the valedictorian of his high school class in Bataan and the recipient of a college scholarship under the GI Bill of Rights in the 1950s. Such recognition and hard work allowed him to successfully complete his tertiary education in Ateneo de Manila University. He finished college in 1959 as an Economics major and is truly grateful for the scholarship and the support of the university. Now, on his 60th year after his college graduation, he wishes to pay forward the gift he received by also helping a fellow scholar from Bataan. Working hand-in-hand with the ASFI, Cong. Payumo is helping to fulfill the goals of the university by providing quality education towards deserving students, and to support Ms. Dizon by fully covering her full tuition and fees in her four-year course of study.
