Carlota obtained her MPhil in Sociology and Social Policy from Bangor University in Wales (Prifysgol Bangor, Cymru), United Kingdom through the Ford Foundation International Fellowship Program and her Bachelor in Sociology from the University of the Philippines, Diliman. She has been teaching for fifteen years, first under the discipline of Sociology and eventually the school of Humanities where she found the passion to teach Literature, the Filipino Language and Culture. A recipient of the Asia Fellows Award (AFA), Carlota conducted a research on the street children in New Delhi, India in 2011. Her research, Images of Childhood in India received funding from both the Asian Scholarship Foundation (ASF) and the University of Pennsylvania Institute for the Advance Study of India (UPIASI). While in New Delhi, Carlota served as a Visiting Research Associate of Jamia Hamdard (Hamdard University) in New Delhi and a volunteer at Khoj Foundation and Butterflies. Both are non-government organizations catering to the needs of children of disadvantaged background. Her researches on children and childhood found reception in both national and international conferences. She is currently a full-time faculty member of the Department of Filipino in the Ateneo de Manila University where she serves as Coordinator for International Linkages directly handling both the Ateneo-Peking University Exchange Program and a course on Language and Culture for the University of San Francisco’s CASA Bayanihan Program.
