About the Translator
 
Dr. Soledad S. Reyes is Professor Emeritus at the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies of the Ateneo de Manila University. In the over 40 books she has authored/edited, and in over 50 of her articles included in books, she has critically engaged texts in Filipino, resulting in seminal contributions in five areas: literary criticism, the Tagalog novel, Philippine popular culture, Filipino women's writings, and translation. Since 2010, she has translated into English the works of Macario Pineda, Rosario de Guzman Lingat, Antonio Sempio, Roque Ferriols, SJ, among others. Her translation of Lingat's novel, What Now Ricky? (Anvil, 2013), received the A.L. Becker Prize for Translation (2016).
