Skilty Labastilla was born and raised in Agusan del Sur. He has educational backgrounds in anthropology and development, and has been involved in film criticism, as a member of former President of the Young Critics Circle, since 2011. In the pivot to online learning during the pandemic, he was among select faculty members tapped by the Ateneo SALT Institute to be a Canvas Coach and an Adaptive Design for Learning (ADL) Coach. He is also a Research Associate of the Institute of Philippine Culture.
