Osaka University

One of the top universities in Japan and in Asia, Osaka University hosts international exchange students through its Osaka University Short-term Exchange Program (OUSSEP), a program designed especially for foreign students.  OUSSEP participants can choose from English-medium classes in a wide variety of areas: science, business, the humanities, and the social sciences. OUSSEP participants also take Japanese language and Japanese culture classes. Admission into OUSSEP is competitive, and the final decision regarding acceptance rests with Osaka University. Results are released in late December or early January.

Students with good Japanese proficiency can also enroll as regular exchange students, and take regular Osaka University classes in Nihongo. A few classes in English are also offered each semester, and regular exchange students can enroll in those as well.  Applicants to the regular exchange program must demonstrate proof of Japanese language proficiency (Grade 1/N1 in the Japanese Language Proficiency Test for the Schools of Letters, Economics, and Law).

Exchange students can apply for financial aid from the Japanese government through Osaka University; the availability of grants is not guaranteed.
