Preparing to Leave
- The SOH JTA coordinator will inform you of the OIR application deadline for each destination university.
- Find out from your destination university website the dates of their school calendar for the term which you are attending.
- Make sure your passport is valid for at least 6 months after you are scheduled to arrive back in the Philippines.
- Check the website of your destination country's embassy or consulate for information on visa application processes for students. Gather all documents you need for your visa application and not ethe length of time it will need to apply for a student (or exchange student) visa.
- Pay your confirmation fee of Php 10,000 to OIR by the confirmation deadline (the SOH JTA coordinator will inform you of the confirmation deadline).
- Find out what classes will be offered at the destination university in the term that you will be attending; take note of the medium of instruction. Schedule a meeting with your department chair or program coordinator to discuss which subjects you intend to take, and which will be credited towards your degree program. You are required to take the equivalent of 12 to 15 Ateneo units (usually 4 to 5 classes) abroad. Finalize any last-minute changes to your IPS with the SOH JTA coordinator.
- Find out from the OIR if your application package is ready for pick-up. Complete the application form and compile all requirements, and submit these to OIR on or before their deadline for your university.
- Make arrangements for housing and health insurance abroad. Some university dorms also offer meal plans.
- Research on costs that you can expect to incur in your destination city (for food, transportation, books, etc.), and prepare your weekly/monthly budget. Make necessary financial arrangements (e.g., whether your parents be sending money to you on a regular basis, and how).
- After you have your visa and the confirmation from your destination university, finalize your flight booking and plan how you will travel to your dorm/apartment/hotel from the airport.
