Environmental Science student bags Best Paper at the Phil. Society of Soil Science & Technology Annual Meeting and Scientific Conference

Gerald Dicen gave the Best Oral Presentation

Gerald Dicen, an MS Environmental Science student, got 1st Place in the Best Paper Award in the Senior Category during the Annual Meeting and Scientific Conference of the Philippine Society of Soil Science and Technology.

Dicen’s paper was a collaborative work between Ateneo de Manila University (Environmental Science Department) and the Philippine Nuclear Research Center entitled "Preservation of organic carbon in mangrove sediments by reactive iron." The co-authors of this paper are Gerald P. Dicen, Carmela A. Garcia, Severino G. Salmo III, Rolland V. Rallos and Dr. Ian A. Navarrete.

At the same time, Dr. Ian Navarette, Assistant Professor of the Department of Environmental Science, garnered an Achievement Award for his notable research efforts in the field of soil science particularly understanding the biophysical, chemical, and mineralogical characteristics, and fertility constraints of degraded soil in the Philippines to name a few.

The Philippine Society of Soil Science and Technology recently had its 20th Annual Meeting and Scientific Conference on May 10-12, 2017 at the Bayfront Hotel, Cebu City.
