ACAS Thesis/Dissertation Grant for SY 2014-2015
The School of Social Sciences through the Ateneo Center for Asian Studies (ACAS), aiming to encourage Filipino M.A. and Ph.D. students to do research on Asia, offers financial support to part-time and full-time faculty members of the Loyola Schools.
- Total amount of grant: twenty thousand pesos (Ph20,000) per student.

Who may apply:
Part-time or full-time faculty members of the Loyola Schools, enrolled in M.A. thesis/Ph.D. dissertation writing in any university in the Philippines
Required documents:
- Thesis/dissertation proposal that includes a clearly stated research problem, well-developed review of literature, framework of analysis or conceptual framework, and methodology.
- Letter of recommendation from the chair or department where the applicant teaches
- Letter of recommendation from the thesis/dissertation adviser that clearly says that the proposal has been accepted and the student is ready to do the research.

Acceptable topics:
The research should be about any of the following:
- Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)
- Asian members of the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF), including the Philippines, as long as it is about the Philippines and ARF or the Philippines in ARF
- Asian members of the East Asia Summit
- Any member-country of ASEAN (except the Philippines)
- Comparison between/among any ASEAN-member country or countries (including the Philippines)
- Foreign policy/relations of ASEAN
- Foreign relations among members of the East Asia Summit (including the Philippines)
- The research may be in any academic discipline and may be inter-disciplinary or multi-disciplinary.
- The research may be in any areas of academic interest such as culture, society, economy, values, politics, religion, regionalization, education, labor, migration, family, gender, environment, nation-building, memory, governance, etc.
- Priority will be given to countries whose government or private sector does not give scholarship or research grant.
Other conditions of the grant:
- The grantee should acknowledge ACAS in the final thesis/dissertation and when any version of the thesis/dissertation or part of it is published.
- The grantee should submit to ACAS a soft copy of the thesis/dissertation that he/she submits to the Office to whom he/she is required to submit it (for example, the Ateneo Graduate School, or the Commission on Higher Education).
- If the grantee fails to finish his/her dissertation within a year, he/she should write to ACAS and explain why. Failure to do so would mean withholding of his/her salary.
- In principle, the grantee should finish within a year, but extension may be granted for justifiable reasons. After two years and the grantee has not finished yet, the full amount of the grant will be deducted from his/her salary.
Procedure and deadline:
- All documents should be in word format.
- All documents should be submitted as email attachment to ACAS. Our email address is acas.soss@ateneo.edu
- Applicant should get in touch with ACAS if no acknowledgment of the submission is received two weeks after submission. ACAS is not responsible for any submission that was not seen by the ACAS director.
- Only complete and correct documents will be considered. ACAS will not call the attention of the applicant for any missing or improperly executed document.
- All documents must be received by ACAS on or before 12 midnight of 31 January 2014 (around 8 months from today). Late submissions will not be accepted and the applicant will not be advised about it.
- Announcement of the result of the competition is around the first half of April 2014. From here, ACAS and the applicant should take the procedure towards issuance of the check.
