Re (Defining) Creativity in the Digital World

Today’s advertising landscape continue to be shaped and redefined by new media which are consumed and produced heavily by millennials or the digital natives amidst sweeping changes in media management and message creation in the corporate world. The digital media landscape is now characterized by dynamism as new technologies get created every day and more audiences using social media to connect or acquire content.

For students in the tertiary level to truly learn advertising, an engagement between industry practitioners and students helps them better understand processes of creativity. They need to learn how to analyze different contexts and the process of creativity and message production and media use, as well as engage in activities outside the parameters of the classroom while learning from the communication industry leaders themselves.

With the goal of ushering a venue for regular engagements between the academe and the digital media industry, the Ateneo de Manila University Department of Communication and the Jose “Totoy” V. Avellana Professorial Chair for Communication Arts are organizing the Jose “Totoy” V. Avellana Annual Memorial Lecture. The first lecture in the series carries the theme (Re) Defining Creativity in the Digital World. This activity is aimed at providing a forum for the interaction between students and industry leaders who can discuss the creative challenges in the contemporary information landscape. It is also designed to showcase Filipino communication skills, a value that was upheld by the late Jose V. Avellana in the way he ran his own advertising agency.
