Dr Leonardo A Lanzona Jr, Professor, Department of Economics, presented a paper last 6 December 2012 in two-day conference held in Bangkok on Informal Labor Employment in Asia, sponsored by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) and the Thailand Development Research Institute (TDRI). Dr Lanzona’s paper provides an overview of informal labor employment in the Philippines and Asia, focusing on the factors explaining its size and the kind of employment it generates. The paper also examines how the informal sector can improve its productivity and it suggests policy directions to increase its scale and encourage its conversion to formality.  Dr Lanzona was invited as an expert and as Director of the Ateneo Center for Economic Research and Development (ACERD).
