Student Organizations

Ateneo Economics Association (AEA)

The Ateneo Economics Association works its way into being the premiere economics organization of the Ateneo and at the same time being the home organization to Economics majors. AEA aims to be a dynamic and progressive student group that forms its members into competent leaders and agents of economic welfare. AEA finds its identity in being an organization who has passion in the theory and practice of economics, an instrument of member and socioeconomic development, and a medium of economic discourse. These are achieved through the organization’s major events such as the Youth Economics Summit and KamalAEAn.

The application of economics to daily life has always been our mantra, and the spread of economic awareness, our aim. As one of the oldest organizations in a university that preaches magis and being persons-for-others, AEA also envisions economists that go beyond classroom discussion of economic theories. Constantly guided by Ignatian principles, we also strive to give back to the community through various development projects.

Ateneo Management Economics Organization (MEcO)

The Ateneo Management Economics Organization (MEcO) is a non-profit student organization of the Ateneo de Manila University, duly recognized by the Council of Organizations of the Ateneo (COA). It aims to promote the practice of making strategic and responsible financial and economic investments that contribute to the growth of its members as competent professionals and compassionate leaders geared towards the economic improvement of the Philippine society.

MEcO has strikingly evolved from its birth as a simple book-lending home organization to the current premier socially responsible investment organization of the Ateneo. As evidenced by its acknowledgment as the Junior Confederation of Finance Associations - Philippines Best Organization for the 2006-2007 academic year and the COA Organization of the Year for 2007-2008, MEcO has successfully repositioned itself by capitalizing on its core competency on investment in the context of nation-building.

On its 27th year, MEcO aims to advance the attainment of the organization’s fullest potential by providing more than financial literacy to its members. It currently trains and provides socially responsible student-investors with value-adding learnings and opportunities such as mentorship programs for its core competencies and developmental workshops for essential soft and hard skills. It has transcended its member’s learning of financial literacy into impact investing where learning and growth are not only instilled on its members, but also to its beneficiaries.

Ultimately, we advance the student’s holistic and well-rounded personal growth as we form student-investors who are agents of social change. At the end of the day, all our efforts are directed towards our two main goals: financial freedom and economic betterment.
