Mr. Arjan Aguirre, a faculty member of the Department of Political Science, was in Seoul, Republic of Korea last 20 December 2013 to speak about the 2013 Philippine midterm election for the 20th ASEAN Forum of the Korean Institute of Southeast Asian Studies (KISEAS). In the forum, Aguirre discussed the impact of the May 2013 election to Philippine electoral politics. Aside from the extant challenges in Philippine elections, Aguirre specifically talked about the emerging institutional patterns of electoral maturity in Philippine electoral politics—growing familiarization in the automated election system, institutionalization of political branding, and the deepening of electoral reform discourse in the Philippines.

The forum, which is themed as election and democratisation in Southeast Asia, was funded by the Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the ASEAN Secretariat Committee. It was attended by distinguished academicians and scholars in Korea specialising in southeast asian studies, electoral politics, and democraticization.
