Formal Turnover of the AICHR Thematic Study on Women in Natural Disasters
PASAY CITY, PHILIPPINES - On 25 July 2017, the Department of Political Science, represented by Lead Researcher/Project Coordinator Dr. Ma. Lourdes Veneracion-Rallonza, formally submits the final report of the thematic study on women in natural disasters to ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) Chair and Philippine Representative, Mr. Leo Herrera-Lim at the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), Pasay City.
The study, entitled Women in Natural Disasters: Indicative Findings in Unraveling Gender in Institutional Responses, compiled/documented, as well as analyzed protection and empowerment policies and practices for women in all ten (10) ASEAN Member States in the context of disaster and emergency/crisis situations. Furthermore, the results of the study were used as basis for the draft text of the proposed ASEAN Regional Action Plan on Women in Natural Disasters. The thematic study was an initiative led by AICHR Philippines on the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the ASEAN.
The Research Team from the Department of Political Science was composed of Ms. Carmel Abao, Dr. Liberty Chee, Dr. Maria Elissa Lao, Dr. Diana Mendoza, Dr. Ma. Lourdes Veneracion-Rallonza, and Ms. Mica Honasan.
