PoS Department holds validation workshop on research findings on Women in Natural Disasters
PASAY CITY, PHILIPPINES - Last 09 June 2017, the Research Team of the Department of Political Science for the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) Thematic Study on Women in Disasters, with the support from the Regional EU-ASEAN Dialogue Instrument Human Rights Facility (READI HRF), conducted a Research Validation Workshop in Belmont Hotel, Pasay City. As an integral part of the Thematic Study methodology, the workshop aimed to (1) validate the results of the research; (2) share resulting analysis and recommendations; and (3) discuss strategic ‘ways forward’ in light of advancing women’s human rights in natural disaster situations.
The workshop was attended by the ASEAN Member States’ officially designated National Focal Persons (NFPs), as well as representatives from the Department of Foreign Affairs, AICHR Chair and Philippine Representative Mr. Leo Herrera-Lim, and Mr. Charles Macaspac, as well as Secretary-General of the Working Group for an ASEAN Human Rights Mechanism, Atty. Ray Paolo Santiago. The research team presented their indicative findings from their respective ASEAN country visits, which the NFPs validated. The NFPs also participated in providing insights to the proposed Regional Action Plan (RAP) on Women in Natural Disasters that was presented. The final research and RAP will be submitted to the AICHR on July 2017.
