Sunga Appointed to UN Working Group on People of African Descent
Atty. Ricardo A. Sunga III (BS ME '89), a faculty member of the Department of Political Science, has just been appointed by the United Nations Human Rights Council as a member of the United Nations Working Group of Experts on People of African Descent. This position belongs to the same category as United Nations Special Rapporteurs--they have special procedures mandate-holders and the nature of their authority is ultimately derived from the United Naitons Charter.
The particular Working Group, to which Atty. Sunga has been appointed, considers issues of racial discrimination against people of African descent, living in countries outside of Africa, like in Europe, Asia and America.
Atty. Sunga received his Bachelor of Laws degree in 1994 from UP and took his Master of Laws (graduated in 2011) at University of New South Wales.
