Psychology: Peace Psychologist Dr Montiel in UN Meeting in Shanghai
Last 29-30 November 2012, political/peace psychologist Dr Cristina Montiel, Professor, Department of Psychology, participated in the Asia South Pacific Regional Consultations of the UN Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) in Shanghai, China. The regional consultations brought together more than 150 key politicians, media leaders, and academicians from the Asia-Pacific region. The joint sponsors of this UNAOC conference were Fudan University, Peking University, Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, China International Publishing Group, Centre for Dialogue (La Trobe University in Australia), and the International Movement for a Just World (Malaysia). Dr Montiel presented a paper on “Possibilities for Dialogue in Conflict Situations in the Asia-Pacific Region.” Her two other Filipino codelegates were peace activist and Pax Christi leader Cesar Villanueva, and Amina Rasul from the Philippine Center for Islam and Democracy.
