Three visual artists and two writers were chosen from among the 18 shortlisted artists to win at the 2018 Ateneo Art Awards.
Alec Madelene Abarro won the Purita Kalaw-Ledesma Prize - ArtAsiaPacific Magazine for her work "An Organized Chaos: Navigating the Looban (On Urban Labyrinth at the Ayala Museum).
Mary Jessel Duque received the Purita Kalaw-Ledesma Prize -The Philippine Star for "Pacita Abad: A Million Times a Woman, an Artist (On Pacita Abad: A Millions Things to Say at the Museum of Contemporary Art and Design)."
The winners of the Fernando Zobel Prizes for Visual Art were Johanna Helmuth (Makeshift), Ronson Culibrina (Talim) and KoloWn (Low Pressured Area). All 3 also received a residency grant: Helmuth at Artesan Gallery + Studio in Singapore, Culibrina at Liverpool University in the United Kingdom and KoloWn at La Trobe University in Australia.
Mars Bugaoan received the People's Choice Award for his art "Becoming." For her work "Traces by Which We Remember," Jel Suarez received the Embassy of Italy Purchase Prize.
The awarding ceremony was held on August 26,2018 at Arete. The entries of the 12 shortlisted visual artists are on display at the Ateneo Art Gallery, also in Arete.
