First national conference on investing in climate and disaster resilience
On June 8,2018, the First National Conference on Investing in Climate and Disaster Resilience will be held at the Eduardo Aboitiz Sandbox, Arete, Ateneo de Manila University in Quezon City.
During the one-day conference, the Coastal Cities at Risk in the Philippines: Investing in Climate and Disaster Resilience (CCAR2) research team and its partners will gather to discuss strategies for implementation of the goals and expected outcomes of the CCAR2 project. The project's research team is composed of a multidisciplinary team of scientists and expert from the Ateneo de Manila University, the Manila Observatory, the University of the Philippines, and the National Resilience Council. The CCAR2 project partners with local government units in Iloilo, Metro Manila, and Naga.
Among the key personalities expected at the conference are Usec. Ricardo T. Jalad, Executive Director of the National Disaster Risk and Reduction Council (NDRRC), Kate Landry, Country Director of Build Change, Dir. Marivel Sacedoncillo of the Local Government Academy, Prof. Ernie Garilao, President of the Zuellig Foundation, Adm. (Ret.) Alexander Pama, for Undersecretary and Executive Director of the NDRRC, and Ma. Antonia Yulo Loyzaga, President of the National Resilience Council.
The CCAR2 project is the second phase of the Coastal Cities at Risk (CCAR) project, a transdisciplinal action research project of the Ateneo de Manila University, Manila Observatory, National Resilience Council, and the International Development Research Centre. The first phase took place from 2012 to 2017, with CCAR2 projected to be a three-year project, running through 2021. One of the offshoots of the CCAR1 project is the Masters in Disaster Risk and Resilience, a graduate program housed in the Ateneo de Manila University.
