Ubuntu Space pushes for innovation and collaboration
November 19,2018 brought people from different disciplines and industries to the Areté to celebrate the launch of Ubuntu Space. The latest spot in Ateneo de Manila University’s creative hub —a gift of generosity from Union Bank of the Philippines —seeks to become a space that stirs up collaboration, innovation and a sense of belongingness.
“Ubuntu is appropriate for this place because Ubuntu is an African word which means ‘I am because we are.’ How do we create this space where we want to invent and create new things? We would have to open the school to industries and the public sector. On behalf of Ateneo, thank you for supporting this experiment to reinvent education,” said Ateneo de Manila University President Fr. Jose Ramon T. Villarin, SJ.
Located at the foyer of Areté, the Union Bank Ubuntu Space will help the university harness unprecedented opportunities for stimulating adaptive and multi-dimensional thinking.
The launch also saw the unveiling of the Ubuntu Space marker and Union Bank chairman Dr. Justo Ortiz said “the idea of speed, co-creation with customers and engagement is only possible with multi-disciplinary teams that are self-forming and self-governing and I think Areté is a symbol of how that is going to happen in the educational system. All of us are united in this Ubuntu Space.”
