Last February 25, 2018, the team of David Africa (11-Tsuji), Mikko Vitug (12-Pro), & CJ Carlos (11-Wright) emerged as champion of the Southern Luzon Inter-High School Debate Encounter (SLIDE UP) held in UP Los Baños. They took home the trophy after defeating a Southridge team in the finals on a 7-0 split. In addition, CJ Carlos was named Best Speaker of the Finals while David Africa was named 7th Best Speaker of the tournament.

Another ASHS team- comprised of Carlo Pastor (11-Torres), Matthew Varona (11-Hurtado), & Miguel Sulit (12-Kibe)- was ranked 6th after the preliminary rounds and finished as semifinalists, losing to eventual champions (and fellow Ateneans) Africa, Carlos, & Vitug.

Now in its eighth year, the tournament aims to promote and enrich the knowledge of high school students about the issues of today through debate.
The ASHS Debaters are moderated by Ms. Amyrrha Estelloso. The team was coached by Miguel Ventura, Isaac Lee, Nicolo Fortuna, Phil Javellana, Drico Ramiro, and Red Nadela for the competition. The Ateneo Debaters extend their gratitude to Dr. Carmela Oracion, Principal of the ASHS, and the ASHS Office of Student Activities and Formation for their support in the competition.
