ASHS Debaters distinguish themselves in Taiwan Debate Open
Representing the Philippines, several members of the Ateneo Senior High School (ASHS) Debate Org distinguished themselves in the 2018 Taiwan Debate Open (TDO) held last May 12 – 14, 2018 at National Chengchi University, Taipei City.
Recent graduate Tim Gamez (12-Navarro) was the only breaking high school adjudicator in the tournament, judging the Finals for English as a Foreign Language (EFL) Category. He was also crowned the 9th Best Adjudicator of the Tournament, alongside established debaters across Asia.
The teams of Bea Legaspi (11-De Brito), Miguel Sulit (12-Kibe), & Miguel Yulo (12-Walpole) as well as CJ Carlos (11-Wright), Matthew Mercado (11-Bellarmine), & David Africa (11-Tsuji) broke 9th and 10th respectively out of 32 teams, as 1st and 2nd reserve break. As one of the few high school students and the only Filipino debaters competing as a team, both teams debated with Asian champions, Worlds teams, and many accomplished debaters from all over the region.
They were chaperoned by their moderator, Ms. Amyrrha Estolloso of the English Department, throughout the tournament.
