ASHS student Ralph Macarasig wins bronze at int'l math tilt

Ateneo de Manila Senior High School student Ralph Joshua Macarasig of 11-Owen won a bronze medal at the 12th International Mathematics Competition (IMC) that was held in Singapore from July 29 to August 1, 2016. His bronze medal was one of 208 medals harvested by Team Philippines, which emerged as the most bemedaled country at the competition. Following the Philippines’ 208 medals was China with 196 medals and Singapore with 123 medals.  
 
As reported by the Mathematics Guild Trainers-Philippines, the Filipino math wizards won 208 medals and 120 merit awards at the IMC. Of the 208 medals, 26 were gold medals, 50 were silver medals, and 132 were bronze medals. Aside from the Philippines, the other countries that competed in the IMC were China, Singapore, Vietnam, Taiwan, South Korea, Iran, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, India, Laos and Hong Kong.
 
The IMC was the first international math competition which Ralph participated in. Prior to his enrollment in the Ateneo Senior High School this school year, Ralph spent his junior high school years at Rizal National Science High School. 

In addition to Ralph, two other Ateneans won medals for the Philippines at the 2016 IMC. Junior high school student Brian Dominic dela Cruz of (La Storta) 8-De Brito also won a bronze medal, while grade school student Jeremie Keon Torralba of 6-Intramuros won a silver medal.
