Cassidy Tan is 1st runner-up of HKIMO final round

Ateneo de Manila Senior High School mathletes Cassidy Tan (11-Moscoso), Deanne Algenio (12-Beyzym), Kyle Xander Co (12-Oldcorne), Amber Lim (11-Tsuji), Marvin Tan (12-Oldcorne), Sherine Capili (11-Tsuji), Maica Chua (11-Moscoso), Mikha Velez (12-Xavier), and Brent Que (11-Brebeuf) won medal awards for the Philippines in the senior secondary group division of the 2021 Hong Kong International Mathematical Olympiad (HKIMO) Final Round, which was held online on August 28, 2021.

Leading our awardees was gold medalist Cassidy, who also emerged as the 1st runner-up winner of the division and ranked #2 globally.

Also winning gold awards were Deanne, Kyle Xander, Amber and Marvin, who were ranked #6, #23, #39 and #39 globally, respectively.

Sherine followed with a silver award and a global rank of #73, while bronze awardees Maica, Mikha and Brent were ranked #133, #172, and #188, respectively.           



Our nine mathletes were among the 462-strong Philippine delegation at the HKIMO, the largest ever to represent our country at the Olympiad. All in all, 1,333 mathletes from Australia, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Egypt, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Vietnam harvested 373 gold awards, 477 silver awards, and 483 bronze awards at the HKIMO Final Round 2021. HKIMO gold awardees have been invited to participate in the World International Mathematical Olympiad (WIMO) Final, to be held online on January 8 - 9, 2022.

The winners were announced during a virtual ceremony that premiered on the Olympiad Champion YouTube channel on October 3, 2021.

The HKIMO aims to create a platform for math enthusiasts around the world to come together for an educational and cultural exchange. Topics covered in the senior secondary group division of the Final Round were logical thinking, number theory, geometry and combinatorics.
