Cassidy Tan wins gold for PH in ‘grueling’ Northern China Math Olympiad
Ateneo de Manila Senior High School students Cassidy Tan (11-Moscoso), Enzo Chan (11-Tsuji), Keean Tang (12-Sullivan) and Steffi Teh (11-Tsuji) are among the 14 mathletes who won medal awards for the Philippines at the Northern China Mathematics Olympiad (CNMO) Invitational, which was held online on August 7, 2021. Cassidy led with a gold award in the grade 11 division, while Enzo won silver also in the grade 11 division. Keean won silver in the grade 12 division, while Steffi earned a bronze award in the grade 11 division.
The 14 Filipino mathletes who represented the Philippines at CNMO harvested a total of two golds, six silvers and six bronzes. Patterned after the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), the CNMO attracted mathletes from Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Hong Kong, Macau, Philippines, and ten provinces of China. It was described by the Mathematics Trainers’ Guild Philippines as a “high level,” “large-scale,” “influential” and “grueling” Olympiad.
