Ateneo de Manila Senior High School mathlete Deanne Algenio (11-Borja) received the highest score globally in the 2020 Canadian Senior Mathematics Contest (CSMC), which she participated in on November 14, 2020. Prior to that, she achieved a perfect score in the first ever Mathematical Challenge for Filipino Kids Training Program (MCFKTP) Contest, which was conducted on October 10 – 11, 2020.

The CSMC is a contest designed to give students the opportunity to have fun and to develop their mathematical problem-solving ability. It is organized by the University of Waterloo’s Centre for Education in Mathematics and Computing (CEMC), an organization whose 15 annual contests attract more than 265,000 students from more than 80 countries every year.

The MCFKTP, on the other hand, is the first stage of the Mathematics Trainers’ Guild (MTG) Philippines’ intensive and comprehensive training program for mathematically gifted elementary and high school students. The program supplements and enriches the existing mathematics curriculum and programs in the country. The MCFKTP Contest held in October was the first such contest held by the MTG.
