Dion Ong garners gold in SASMO and is ranked #7 globally!

Incoming Ateneo de Manila Grade 11 student Dion Stephan Ong won two gold awards in two recent international math competitions. First, he won a gold medal in the final round of the 7th International Mathematics Assessments for Schools (IMAS) Junior Division, which was conducted at selected Mathematics Trainers Guild (MTG), Phils. centers last March 10, 2018. Fifteen countries including eight provinces from China joined the competition. The IMAS prize presentation was held at Philadelphia High School in Quezon City on May 19, 2018.

Secondly, Dion garnered a Gold Award and was ranked #7 globally in the Grade 10 division of the 2018 Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiad (SASMO) held last April 7, 2018. This year, over 28,000 contestants from 18 countries participated in the SASMO, which was held in Saint Stephen’s High School. Students who obtained a gold or silver award in the SASMO are eligible to take part in the Singapore International Math Olympiad Challenge (SIMOC) to be held in Singapore from July 6 to 9, 2018 or the World Math Invitational to be held in Seoul, Korea from July 13-17, 2018.
 
At the Ateneo Junior High School Closing Ceremony held last March 24, 2018, Dion was named First Model for Academic Excellence. He also received the Subject Area Awards for Mathematics and Computer Education.
