Dion Ong wins silver in nat'l programming Olympiad
Incoming grade 12 student Dion Stephan Ong won a silver medal in the 2019 Philippine National Olympiad in Informatics (NOI) on April 7, 2019. Participants from all over the country slugged it out from April 6-7, 2019 at Ateneo de Manila University’s Faura Hall to perform five programming tasks during each day’s five-hour session. Among those invited to participate were the top 30 of the NOI Eliminations, a 222-hour online competition with 14 programming problems of varying difficulty that started at 6:00 pm of Jan. 18, 2019 and ended at 11:59 pm of Jan. 27, 2019. Because of his silver finish at the NOI, Ong has been invited to a training program for the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI), the most prestigious high school level computer science competition in the world. If he finishes the training program in the top four, Ong will represent the Philippines in the IOI, which will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan on August 4-11, 2019.
