Enzo Castillon is new ‘Grandmaster of Memory’ title holder
Representing the Philippines, Enzo Castillon (11-Brebeuf) emerged as the new Grandmaster of Memory title holder in the World Memory Championship (WMC) held in Jakarta, Indonesia from December 1 to 3, 2017. Enzo won his title after memorizing 12 shuffled decks of cards in one hour, 1,240 random digits in one hour, one shuffled deck of cards in 97.27 seconds, plus 1,560 binary digits in one hour. Enzo was also ranked 13th out of 35 competitors in the Juniors Division (13 to 17 years old).
Making Enzo’s achievement even more impressive is the fact that the 2017 WMC was the very first world-level memory championship he participated in. According to Enzo’s coach, Anne Bernadette “AB” Bonita, Enzo had only started training for the competition less than six months ago. She adds that it is unprecedented for a Filipino to earn the “Grandmaster of Memory” title after training for less than six months.
The 2017 WMC was participated in by 111 memory athletes from 21 countries.
